Kia ora, my name is Nick Walshe, and I’m a clarinetist based in the Wellington region. I’m currently principal clarinet with Orchestra Wellington, and co-principal clarinet with the Royal NZ Air Force Band. I’ve recently returned to Wellington after completing postgraduate studies at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University in Montreal, Canada. I’m an experienced and passionate musician, teacher, and arts administrator, having worked professionally in all three of these disciplines over my career.
I have more than ten years of teaching experience, and am currently taking on new clarinet, saxophone and music theory students. I’m an animated and highly organised teacher, and I work hard to help my students achieve their goals, whether this be to play their favourite song in concert, or to enter a university programme of study. Find out about lessons with me here.
As a performer, I’ve given concerts in New Zealand, Canada, Malaysia, South Korea, and the USA, playing with groups from small one-off ensembles, to fully professional orchestras. I’m an advocate for new music with significant experience in working with composers to premier new works. Watch and listen to past performances here, or find out where you can see me in concert here.
